5 Networking mistakes you must avoid at all costs

As the networking rate is so high, let’s talk about it. As a job-seeker, you should NOT do the following if you want better outcomes from networking:

  • Don’t go into networking expecting you’ll land a job

Yeah, networking will help you find the right job, but you’re frustrated if you concentrate only on finding a job rather than developing relationships. The way we develop personal relations is just like networking. You know you can rely on your best friend to support you, but this is due to your relationship. You wish to start networking first of all to show interest in the individual and to build up a relationship – to work together to find common grounds. Don’t just ask, “Have you got a job for me?

  • Don’t make it only about you

Effective networking includes creating relationships that support each other. Often you are looking for support and guidance, and sometimes you do the same with your contact. The secret is that you have a truly personal interest and a daily willingness to help pattern. A successful contact demonstrates the same ability to assist you if necessary. Do not become greedy, prevent relationships from being formed where you are always at the receiving end.

  • Don’t assume you can only network through LinkedIn

LinkedIn can be popularly recognised as a technical networking group, but you can connect to several other sources. In your education, job fairs and professional networking gatherings, consider the career services. Learn how to craft that perfect LinkedIn profile right here.

  • Don’t network without a reason

LinkedIn makes it so easy to send people an invitation to chat, but it doesn’t give anyone else reason to want to chat to them if you send the invitation without a reason. This particularly applies when the individual isn’t familiar with you.

  • Don’t stop networking

Continue to sustain and improve a relationship once you establish. Continue to check your contacts regularly, including to say “hello.” It is also vital that your network of contacts continues to grow. Work on developing new relationships and looking for opportunities to allow you to develop a stronger relationship network with established contacts.

The expectations are high when it comes to job-hunt. Make sure you avoid common job search mistakes like the ones mentioned above. Recall that while you are looking for a job, your chances of getting in are increased.  Not everyone in your network will be referred to you, but you will have more support on your side by creating a network of strong relationships.
